FEATURES & COLUMNS

Aelon Kein Ad--Our Islands
a story by Ku'a Marshallese island students, in their own words

We live on the Big Island in Hawai'i, but our real home is the Republic of the Marshall Islands in Micronesia.

Banking Oligopoly Thrives in Bad Times
Bigger Business, by Stephen G. Hannaford

Doesn't matter if the economy's down or up: the big just keep getting bigger.

A Conspiracy of Ravens: How Much Is Enough?
by Rich Seifert

This is a question that Americans simply cannot seem to answer, and it might just be the question.

Dancing with Sarah
by Peter Pierson

Sarah Palin, I knew from experience, could get Nomeites out in their finest. And she could dance.

Dose of Reality: Do Not Resuscitate: a commentary on the insurance industry
by Neil Davis

Why does Dr. Geyman think that the health insurance industry is dying?

The Ester Thought Posse Report
September 2008

All is not well at First Grade Manufacturing. We hear from our now-demoted psychic eavesdropper of Grandmother Bi and the village of Wu Fu, which the Mysterious Research Department can't quite comprehend.

The Long View: Big State, Small Screen
by Ross Coen

When Mike Gravel challenged Ernest Gruening, he used a new kind of campaign tool.

The Missionary Position on Religion in Politics
opinion by Neal Matson

I was watching the 2004 Democratic Convention when this guy came out and started talking about unity among Americans. I'll never forget when Barack Obama said, "We worship an awesome God in the blue states."

The Missing Link: Growing Seeds
by Susan Willsrud

Calypso Farm is working toward self-suficiency in all aspects of farming, and that means starting from the seed up.

Nuclear Refugees in Washington, DC
by John D. Lyle

Neal Matson's vivid recollections of the South Pacific atolls of Bikini Island compell me to continue the telling of this tragic story, one which was kept secret from the American people until only recently, and which has yet to end. The bombs which destroyed the homes of the Marshall Islanders still reverberate.

Readers on the Run!
by D. Helfferich

Twenty runners showed up for this 5-k fun run around the village: neither snow nor wind nor magnetic poetry deterred these intrepid sports lovers.

Response to Philip Traum, on Single-Payer Health Care
by Neil Davis

Clearly, Mr. Traum does not agree with my contention that a single-payer system is the best way to reform this country's overly expensive and highly dysfunctional health care system. One thing to consider is that no matter the system, health care does not come for free and the only payer really is the general public. It is just a question of how that payment is routed.
