Where to Find the Library

The library is located off the village square in downtown Ester, Alaska, in the lower level of Frank's house, a red-and-white barnish building next to the log castle (you'll see what we mean when you get to the village square). The library is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday. You can e-mail us at library [at] esterrepublic.com or call the library at 451-9892 and leave a message if you have questions.

Donate to the Library

There are many ways you can help at the library, and many ways to donate, from cold, hard cash to buying a shelf name plate to purchasing a t-shirt! But however you decide to help, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you've made your community a better place to live, and the thanks of your neighbors.

Library News

Articles appear in The Ester Republic from time to time about the latest library acquisitions, collections of authors or genres, and the like. The paper also publishes book and movie reviews, some of those books and videos residing on the library's shelves.

T-shirts coming soon!

To help raise money for the library, Jamie Smith has designed a fun logo that we will be using on t-shirts, mugs, and bookmarks. The first t-shirts should be available at the Tim Easton concert.

Land & building planning

The library board has obtained land for the new library building along Village Road, The ECA is holding open planning meetings to discuss site planning and building design. The next meeting is at Hartung Hall on August 27. The second meeting was on August 6, and the first meeting was held June 17.

Lallapalooza

The library holds an annual Library Lallapalooza and Book Bash in March. The first Lallapalooza brought in enough money to start a building fund, and the second one surpassed it, bringing in-kind donations as well. The library board will be looking for grants and other sources of funding, too.

History

The John Trigg Ester Library started its days as the Ester Republic Reading Room, back in 1999, with a collection of dumpster-dived books provided by Frank Therrell and a cozy flower-print couch donated by Lisa Sporleder. Since then, the library has grown by leaps and bounds, becoming a full-fledged membership library with five librarians.
