THE SOCIETY PAGES

Ester, being a village, and being Alaskan, is a small place, and everybody knows everyone else, or at least knows someone who knows somebody else. People here are rather fond of costume parties and will jump at any excuse for a barbecue or potluck. Hence, we celebrate the Squash Fest, Bastille Day, Major Miner Day (also known as Ansgar's Birthday), Thursday, and any other suitably eccentric reason for a get-togther with food, beverages, dress-up or dress-down, dogs and/or balls. Occasionally, the event is photographed, and sometimes the photos end up in the paper, depicting what local society is up to.
