Jamie Smith, cartoonist Jamie Smith is the author of freeze-frame and Nuggets, distinctly Alaska cartoon strips featured in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, the Anchorage Daily News, and other papers around the state; he has published three cartoon collections and illustrated other books, and his Iditatoons have shown up in Mushing magazine. He is one of the very few cartoonists the publisher knows who can actually pay his rent with his cartooning income (he lives cheaply). An accomplished artist, he graduated with a BFA from the University of Alaska and an MFA from the Art Institute of Savannah. He has won awards from the Alaska Press club for his editorial cartoons, and continues to produce quantities of zany work and teaches drawing and cartooning at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
