The Last Word?
© 2001 by Scott Allen

I have this ridiculous notion that the writing of this epistle will be the last word on the upcoming topic, but alas, I know I have to endure four more years of same. Sigh.

I am railing against the near-hysterical hype from the Floridian Hogwash Holocaust. The candidates, the media, and several patrons of the Golden Eagle that I have had to listen to have all put out or responded to hype or missed information. This reminded me of a chicken that has had its head cut off, except this chicken had enough remaining brain and vocal cords to go about its last great flurry of activity with a lot of noise and yelling. All the parties involved are equally to be blamed for this spewing.

The candidates: they all squawked like wounded chickens at each others’ perceived malicious manipulations that reminded me of a couple of spoiled brats with rich daddies, who learned their rhetoric in first grade. Who did they think they were fooling with their BS? We all understood that this fiasco was headed for the Supreme Court. I would have had more respect for both of them had they kept their truncated beaks shut and got on with the process.

The media: this is a biggy. I could rest my case on just election night alone. The media’s incompetency in their premature ejaculation about who had won the election was enough to make me want to take a sledgehammer to my radio/tv, better yet their radio/tv. To me this was a good demonstration of who the real idiots were. Ratings, newspaper sales or anything that may play upon the public’s emotions, rather than journalistic accuracy and factual reporting seem to be the driving force in news coverage these days. I heard comments like how "the country was deeply divided"—did any of you folks hear a great big ripping noise? I have to assume that it was my job to extract the inuendo from comments such as how Jeb Bush was keeping silent throughout this whole process. Not once did I hear any reportage about what the Supreme Court decision actually said, only how badly the Supreme Court had been hurt.

YAY for the internet! I took the time to look up the Supreme Court decision, so that I might be more effective in disabling media parrots with an informed opinion. I would encourage you readers out there to do the same. I did not have time to read the entire decision, but what I did read held some interesting surprises. Rather than being a national train wreck as some of you would have us believe, I think that this is an excellent civics lesson and a good demonstration of how foresightful and intelligent the nation’s forefathers were, as well as how well our system of government works. It worked in spite of the rhetoric.

You Golden Eagle patrons hear this! If Shrub and Al Jr. were any closer to center you’d have pull out the center post between them, maybe even merge them (god forbid). The whole selection process preceding the election assures that these guys are going to be nothing but center—the good ol’ boy system doesn’t tolerate whackos. Trust Nader, do you, hmm? Wonder why the good ol’ boys couldn’t buy Ross Perot? He had more money than they did, silly. What most of you folks would see as candidate with a serious yaw right or left, I see as having a nose twitch one way or two. A candidate facing you has a cant one way, turn him around and he’s canted the other way. Waddya think spin doctors are for? Might explain why these guys are so dizzy.
