Ross Coen
writer

Ross Coen writes a regular history-and-politics column, The Long View, for the paper, and was the founder of Fairbanks Media Watch, a quarterly journal that provided oversight and criticism of local media outlets for a few years. Some articles from Media Watch were published in the Republic. Ross has a degree in northern studies from UAF, and recently spent a year in Japan teaching English to Japanese schoolchildren, who were, contrary to stereotype, quite a handful. He worked in Washington, D.C. as a senatorial aide until 2009. He is now employed at the Alaska Center for Energy and Power and the Tanana Chiefs Conference. He is working on a book project on Fairbanks cultural history.
