THE PUB & SPORTING NEWS The Golden Eagle Saloon, the Blue Loon, and, of course, the Malemute Saloon are the local watering holes in Ester. Historically, bars in Ester have served as the post office, bank, restaurant, general store, pool hall, and library. Events at the park are often followed or preceded by events at the local public houses, and much of importance in Ester is discussed over a cup of coffee or a beer. The Loon is a movie house and music hall; the Malemute hosts a variety show; the Eagle is a cybersaloon. Parties, fundraisers, potlucks, movies, comedy shows, and contests are held at the various saloons. Ester Football League games, basketball and softball games, fishing trips, and the odd overland expedition often start out at or end up at these community gathering spots. | ||
