Some Thoughts About John

What a dry sense of humor,
a meticulous, punctual nature
reflected in the dog's pink bows.

Fourth of July waterfights
preceded by conservative watering
showered liberally with hospitality.

Before finally choosing the Midnight Sun
mighty tales from time on the waters,
a hobby fortold—What a Fleet!

Modeling courage and integrity,
he died as he lived and leaves a legacy
of fine stories over beers at the Eagle.
