John David Ragan, writer A historian and traveler, J.D. Ragan has been a frequent contributor to the paper, writing everything from recipes to political essays. He has written a few books, including a biography of Emiliano Zapata and a history of exploration in Alaska. He is a firefighter with the Ester Volunteer Fire Department when he is in the village, and has written many Firebreak columns.
