Volume 4, number 8, September/October 2002 Firebreak Yes, the long-awaited Fire Prevention Week is upon us. I know fire prevention is foremost in all of your thoughts, but mark your calendars for the second week of October. This week is designated for you to put those thoughts into action. Some things that you can do to make your house safer: clean out that chimney, check those smoke detector batteries (or swap them out), go over a fire evacuation plan with your family, clean up all those oily rags in the garage, inspect your fire extinguishers, make sure your house number is visible from the road, call the EVFD to draw up a pre-fire survey. What is a pre-fire survey? You can have the EVFD come out to your home and come up with a plan of attack, which will hopefully never be used. This survey can provide the department with information important for faster life safety response and fire extinguishment. We also provide these services to local businesses. What other things can the EVFD provide to make your home safer? We can provide you with free rental of our chimney brushes (new one purchased this year), free smoke detectors, informational booklets on fire safety, child and pet finder stickers, free reflective house number signs, and much more. Want to learn more on how to use a fire extinguisher? Give us a call. We’ll give you, your family, and/or your business a free class. Want to learn CPR? Sign up for our next free class (books included!). Please note that the word FREE is tossed around quite a bit in the last paragraph. Stop on down to the station and get a FREE cup of coffee with all of the other FREE stuff. Don’t worry, only some of us bite (we have FREE first aid). Have a great month and we look forward to hearing from all of you in the near future. Please call if you have any questions. Thank you for your support. | ||
