Just a comment about the baker for the FE Company in Ester. His last name was Moss, and as far as we can remember he stayed at the Mess Hall. His dog was a German shepherd, not a husky.

In your last issue (October 2003) there was a Back Page picture of the area and showing a dragline behind dredge 10. If this is the same dragline that was there at our time it was supposed to be the second largest in the world at that time. Some workers at the company drove a 3/4-ton pickup into the bucket to show how big it was. That was big for those days.

I thought of another bit of history about the local area. Around 1948 or 1949 a group of people got together and formed a racing association to start up stock car racing. I'm not sure where the track was located but I believe it was somewhere between Ester and Fairbanks. They built a 1/4-mile dirt track and raced as often as they could.

Of course my dad Ray was a charter member and really enjoyed the events. Maybe someone around there can remember something about it.

And they thought the NASCAR association was first?

Thanks,

To The Greenie Editor of this Pinko Rag,

I hear all you lefty types sayin’ that America ain’t brought American style democracy to Iraq. Now what in tarnation is you freakos thinkin’? Why them A-rabs is enjoyin’ the fruits of freedom and democracy even as we speak (which we ain’t, cause this here’s a letter, heh, heh).

Look, first off, them folks all got guns, which is always a good thing. Then consider that all them fine private citizens took the ‘nitiative a helpen theirselves to all that property what that there Sad-dam fellow was hoardin’ to hisself. Them ee-leet media liberal traitor types got the nerve to call them folks looters. Why that there’s private-eye-zashun fer ya. I hear them fellers on AM radio tell me ever day ‘bout how we need more private-eye-zashun. And what’s good fer America is good fer A-rabs. I mean, they think just like we do.

And what about them poor folks over there? That Sad-dam was a socialist, bought them schools and roads and stuff. No wonder they was weak and couldn’t win a war ‘gainst us. They been coddled by their own guv’ment. Now they gotta get by on their own without handouts. This’ll make ‘em strong and smart like that Rush feller on AM radio. He’ll teach ‘em how not to be dependant on somethin’.

And another thing, I hear them religious types over there is formin’ militias. Why that just warms my heart faster than an open can of Pabst Blue Ribbon on a hot Ju-ly afternoon. Why, if guv’ment buildings go boom, that’s just the sound of freedom.

Best of all, they got them oil companies runnin’ the show, and they’ll do it right. Just look what a fine job they done in America in places like Texas and ‘Wheezianna and yer own great state of A-laska.

Yep, I’d say the president is on the money. Mission A-complished! Them folks in Iraq got theys-selves an American style democracy.
