The Rogers Reply
To the Editor, The Ester Republic:

We, the parents of Jeffrey Rogers, take considerable offense at the malicious innuendos hidden in Jeffrey's latest article, "Kill Your TV". The message he placed within that diatribe was that his parents were neglectful, and used the TV as a babysitter.

Here are the facts. Jeffrey was the youngest of four boys in our family. It took imagination and resources to keep them occupied and out of mischief. It just so happened that TV came along at the right time of day. Yes, we were a TV family and probably would have given June and Ward Cleaver a run for the money. We won't mention which of our boys matched the Beaver, or Eddie Haskell.

As a matter of fact, Jeffrey was the only one to watch a full week of "Gilligan's Island" with dubbed-in Spanish, when Anchorage TV entertainment was flown in one week at a time. He also developed a crush on the Mouseketeers' Annette Funicello and to this day can sing the M-I-C-K-E-Y song from start to finish. When we lived in Tulsa, the brothers lived for Saturday mornings when they could go to the Boman Twin for the latest installment of "The Iron Claw".

We have learned that he now sneaks upstairs with Oliver, while Margaret is cooking dinner, and they watch "The Simpsons", and "King of the Hill". Next, watch for a big black Lincoln bar car in the ditch. The driver had installed a TV!
